Information for incoming Freshman and students new to LGHS

Hello Future Wildcat Families,

I am excited to share this information about the 2020-2021 sports season. There is a lot of information in this email so please take some time to look over everything, read the documents and learn about each of the amazing sports we offer here at Los Gatos High School.

During these unprecedented times, a lot is unknown about what the upcoming school year will have in store for us all. At this time, I do not know when the sports seasons will begin. I encourage you to visit our athletics website at https://losgatosathletics.com/  for updates and announcements on start-dates and try-outs. Information will be posted on the website as it is made available.

To that end, we will be planning and moving forward as if the sports seasons will begin as planned. Adjustments will be made as the county and school district provide information to us.

Under normal circumstances, we hold a large assembly welcoming all of our new students to Los Gatos High School. This year, our 8th grade sports night will be done electronically.

Los Gatos High School offers almost every sport made available by the California Interscholastic Federation. For sport-specific information, I urge all of you to reach out directly to the head varsity coach of that sport. The head varsity coaches are the first line of communication for any questions you may have about a specific sport and are eager to hear from you. Additionally, please feel free to reach out to me with general questions or if you have difficulty reaching a specific head varsity coach.

Our 8th grade sports night is something I look forward to every year. If there is one piece of advice I can give to any incoming freshman, it is this:

If you are interested in playing a high school sport DO IT!

The shared experiences students have with their fellow classmates is something they will never forget. We want our student athletes to participate in as many sports as they can. While many believe that specializing in one sport is the key to athletic success and, in turn, the potential of earning a college scholarship, that is simply not true. Most successful athletes and who earn scholarships play multiple sports. Of the many reasons to participate in interscholastic athletics, earning a college scholarship is just one small reason. Sports are meant to be fun and are an important part of the high school experience.

I hope to help you make the next four years at Los Gatos High School as memorable as possible. One of the best ways to do that is to participate in high school athletics. It’s with that that I officially welcome the class of 2024 to Los Gatos High School.

Go Cats!
