The Wildcats bested their strong start Friday by scoring the first 10 points against the Haybalers of San Benito Saturday night and ending with an 18 – 5 lead after the first quarter, powered by triples from senior Sabrina Belquist, junior Carlee King, and junior Olivia Lo, along with several steals generated from the Wildcat pressure. In the second quarter, the Balers found some holes in the Cat defense, putting up 12 in the frame, but the Cats countered with outside shots from Belquist and sophomore Jeanette Grasty and driving baskets from Lo and junior Ashley Poshard, extending the lead to 34 – 17 at the half.
For the second night in a row, the Cats came out strong in the third quarter and extended the lead with buckets from senior Sara Chiala and sophomore Morgan Burt. In the fourth, King and junior Maddie Dewhirst hit three-pointers (the Cats had twelve in the game) to close out the victory 65 – 42.
After improving their record to 6 – 3 and becoming eligible for CCS playoffs, the Cats will face Pittsburg on Monday night in the championship game.
