In their third meeting of the season with Palo Alto, in the CCS Division 1 quarterfinals, the Cats had, by far, their best start, jumping out to an 8-0 lead with some inside buckets from freshman Natalie Anthony and a pressure zone defense. The Cats maintained the lead through the first quarter, ending the period with a 15-7 lead. In the second quarter, the Vikings caught fire from outside, putting in four three-pointers; they had eleven in the game. The Cats faced a three-point deficit going into the half.
In the second half, the fluctuated between 4 and 10, but the Cats could not close the gap entirely. Despite a defensive intensity not seen yet this year, the Wildcats could not get enough shots to fall. The game ended with the Cats down by five.
Anthony led the team with 14 points. Sophomore Olivia Lo had 11, and junior Sabrina Belquist put in 10. In her final game as a Wildcat, senior Alexa Wong had 9 points and the heart of a lion. The Cats also say goodbye to seniors Maddie Moore and Lexi Haidar.
The Wildcats finish the season with a 14-12 record. Despite the disappointment of losing tonight, we celebrate these girls and this squad. It has been a season of beautiful moments and wonderful humans, and we look forward to a new adventure next season!
