The Wildcats scored first but quickly fell behind 3-2 with a long bank shot from Santa Clara. The Cats responded with an 18-0 run to take a 20-3 lead halfway through the first quarter. Junior Sabrina Belquist and sophomore Olivia Lo combined for 17 in the opening quarter. But the Bruins heated up from outside, pulling within 12 at the end of the first frame. In the second, the Wildcats continued their scoring and improved their defense, holding the Bruins to two buckets in the quarter. The Cats took a 45-20 lead into halftime.
The second half was relatively even, with the Wildcats cruising to a 69-45 victory. For the first time this season, the Wildcats had four players in double figures. Lo led the charge with 23; Belquist added 20; sophomore Ashley Poshard had 11; and senior Maddie Moore put in 10. Moore also energized the Cats with an impressive display of rebounding in the second half, when their offense faltered.
The Wildcats are now 6-5 in league play (13-10 overall) heading into the final game of the regular season; they will be hosting Cupertino on Monday night.
