The Wildcats started league play on Monday quickly falling behind 9-2 before righting the ship and getting three 3-pointers to fall. Down 15-11 after the first quarter, the Cats found the paint in the second with two scoring drives from sophomore Olivia Lo and four free throws from senior Maddie Moore and freshman Natalie Anthony. The game was knotted up at 25 going in to halftime.
The Cats turned up the intensity in the third, holding Wilcox to 7 points, while putting up 15 of their own: Junior Sabrina Belquist had 6 in the quarter and Lo added 5 more. But down by 8, the Chargers were not done. They made a push in the fourth quarter, getting within 3 points on two separate occasions, but the Cats held their lead with key free throws down the stretch from senior Alexa Wong.
Belquist lead all scorers with 20 points and Lo had 16. The Wildcats start league play with a win and look forward to hosting Mountain View on Wednesday night.
