On the heels of a three-game losing streak, the Wildcats flipped their recent fortunes with their best half of the season, putting up 37 points and holding the Spartans to 12. Junior Sabrina Belquist had 13 in the first half, while sophomore Olivia Lo contributed 11. The Cats complemented their hot shooting with aggressive defense, getting three steals that led to quick baskets.
The Spartans made a run in the third quarter, making up nine points to cut the deficit to sixteen going into the fourth. But the Cats righted the ship in the closing period with ball control and key free throws from Lo, senior Alexa Wong, and sophomore Ashley Poshard.
Of special note was the defense of Wong, who spent most of the night guarding the Spartans’ center. In addition to her stellar defense, Wong had 7 points. The primary scoring for the Cats came from Lo with 19 and Belquist with 18.
The Wildcats improve their league record to 4-4 (11-9 overall) and get their first league road win of the season. The Cats will host Palo Alto on Friday night as they head into the last four games of the regular season.
